ego

Insatiable: the hunger you never escape.
Like Cronus I eat all that I create.
Too afraid that no one---no, nothing will ever
Stand as tall.

Infallible. The right to define the truth
is reserved for those who take it.
A battle ax, more cumbersome
than the weapon sharpened to a fine point.

In finite I exist. Not infinite am I.
Flesh and bone surrounded by a nebula
of thought; the nihilist rises.
Unanticipated the hope hidden in anticipation.

You know, just the typical stuff I think/write about while I putting the laundry away in the afternoon (that's been sitting in my entryway for two weeks). Whatya do?

Is It You?

If you think time is linear, then you're a fool.
My heart beats hollow sometimes, there's a trap door there.
It leads to the past, which, I constantly think about becoming my future.
It takes me under you, around you, through you;
But never to you.

There is no such thing as 'space'.
The distance between us is always the same.
It fits half way across the world, and in between old embraces.
If you called me there, I would already be THERE;
But will you?

There is a difference between joy and contentment.
I will have one without you, but not the other.
One can live a whole life with a smile on their face,
For a memory that isn't there.
It is you.

untitled to you

In my mind I place your hands upon me.
Hands that always ask a fee,
Never yeilding to entrances,
of eager eyes and sobbing throat.
You are too clever
for a heart that waxes slender,
so you stop just there,
before the burgeon of my soul.

So let me begin to unfold you.
Tracing fingers down your spine.
Let my forces crash upon you,
waves that drag one out to sea.
But there you wait upon the shore,
eyes of amber all aglow
missing nothing in the challenge of a foe
content to have me lap about your feet.

I will take your heart inside me,
like a pyre burning bright;
And take you deep inside the dark,
Let you burn me from the inward out.
But like the blood red phoenix rise,
We'll come to sing anew.
For I am the weary traveler
winding down the road that is you.

If we so collided with contentment
and the world conceived persists,
I will rest my hand upon your jaw,
"Let us see this eye to eye,"
Never leave me,
Never say you can forget.
For I am the gentle breeze that rocks you,
and the stillness is the death.

I used to think that I would be a brightstar,
but I knew that brightstars burnt out fast.
The fear was there, I still admit;
the whisper of you breath (I thought)
said you'd be the wish on my last descent.
Who did I think I was? One so young,
and with so little experience.
Like the fourth of July, I set out for heaven.
And in a flowing arc I came down fast,
and I came down hard.
And then I saw, so clearly, the chance
that I had thought was "Life",
was just another holiday to you.

I felt as deep as the sea, and as endlessly blue
A collection of moments, boundless;
leading straight back to you.
For I am a moon, one side ever dark.
The other reflecting someone else's glory.
Is it a gift, or the greatest of tragedy,
that a piece of me still made it,
to keep company with greeks?
So that all could guide their nights
by the error of our ways.
I'll never know what could have been,
nor have a want to hear that crystal knell.
The life worth living is the one hard to foretell.

I think it might be missing something...perhaps it will come. I'll let you know, or better yet, you tell me.

Untitled

Fresh out the even, along with my first batch of whole wheat bread (cross your fingers)
Enjoy.

Like the leaves above the soil
You help me to breathe.
Absorbing light, adding strength
to my rich darkness.
Dancing above me, twirling to the
music of the earth;
the beat of every hand and foot.
I love your beauty and your joy.
What gives strength to me
will help you to grow.

I'll be the rocky shore
to your rolling coast.
Break me down to a fine powder,
like golden jewels beneath your waves.
Laying peacfully still watching you twist and
rolling with the screech of gulls.
I will reckon to your ebb and flow
For the life that lives in you
resides in me.

I am the question to your sure answer.
A squiggle a dot, adding what?
A fresh breeze from a just opened window.
You follow my curves, jump off at my point;
my soul sings a song of existence.
Steady you guide me home.
For you know what I know,
and that is enough.

You are the mountain
I set out to conquer.
Setting visions of granduer ablaze in my head.
Rising before me, demanding respect.
I climb higher and further than any before.
Breast heaving to capture your piercing fresh air.
I surrender myself yelling "Take all of me!"
The echo cries back!
For we are one.

A Dream

This is a new poem I wrote today:

If I were a ship I would never take port.
Like a fish I would be, and not like a tree
with my roots all around, tangled down in the earth.
But, flying over the sea sealing the waves and the clouds
with one golden line of shimmery bliss.

To and fro I would rock like the tick of a clock
to the sound of the whales as they cry for their mothers.
And seafoam would feed all my shivers and timbers
till the one final day I might sink down with my treasures.

But no, I would never take port.
